SST 420 and SST 440C for Cutlery and Tool Application
SST 420 is a variation of SST 410. This grade of stainless steel is commonly used in cutlery and tool application. SST 420 is harden able on the Rockwell C scale to the 53 - 57 range. Improved strength and better wear resistance are found in SST 420 and SST 440C.
Maintaining the Edge
• For maintaining strength and proper cutting and tool edges for cutlery/tool application, SST 420's carbon range of .15% to .40% allows this stainless steel grade to possess enhanced strength and better resistance to wear. Durability and form integrity are a part of the carbon content and hardened condition of this grade .
• Skorr Steel also offers 440 C for another upgrade in hardness. The carbon content of this grade ranges from .60% to .75%, while chromium ranges from 16% to 18%. 440C can be hardened to a Rockwell C 55-65 range and is intended for cutlery, tool and medical manufacturing, as well as machine and service center use.
